The local authorities of La Laguna and Tacoronte, alongside the Mixed Company Teidagua, are addressing social exclusion. The budget allocated for this assistance in 2025 will amount to 30,000 euros.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, emphasised that “this social fund has become an essential resource for numerous families since 2018, and since then, the financial commitment has also been heightened to ensure this crucial public service for all citizens, without exception.” In this context, the mayor clarified that “more than 82 families benefited from this assistance programme in 2024, thanks to the nearly 18,000 euros that were made available for this purpose.”
The mayor also pointed out that “this aid is part of a wider array of supportive services provided by the Municipal Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life to address various urgent needs of the most vulnerable individuals, such as accommodation resources, childcare facilities, and food, among other essential necessities.”
Additionally, the mayor of Tacoronte, Sandra Izquierdo, underlined the significance of these grants “to help cover the costs of this crucial service for the most disadvantaged families in our community,” while expressing her gratitude for the efforts made by Teidagua “to ensure the ongoing support aimed at assisting numerous residents who find themselves, due to certain circumstances, in a challenging economic situation.”
Meanwhile, the manager of Teidagua, Braulio Domínguez, stated that “this service is offered in the form of reduced rates and through assistance for settling invoices, thus alleviating the financial burden that this provision may impose on families with limited means.”
Individuals eligible for these grants include people and families experiencing financial hardship, as validated by reports from the social services of each local council.
Before granting this discount, an evaluation of the applicant’s situation will be conducted to ensure that the family unit lacks sufficient income to cover these bills or to confirm that they hold an individual contract for the supply of drinking water for their primary residence in either municipality.
The mixed company Teidagua also offers similar benefits tailored for retirees, pensioners, and unemployed individuals over the age of 55, as well as large families or household units consisting of five or more members.
