The Adeje City Council approved its budget for 2025 yesterday, amounting to 122 million euros, which signifies a 7% increase compared to last year. The financial plan received backing from the PSOE, while Vox opposed it, and both PP, CC, and Podemos abstained from voting.
Among the sectors receiving the most financial support, 14 million euros will be dedicated to enhancing street cleaning and waste collection services. Additionally, there are plans to modernise the water and sanitation supply systems.
In terms of social initiatives, a 5% rise has been earmarked for services aimed at assisting vulnerable individuals.
The budget for home assistance services will total 9 million euros, with social action seeing a 7% increase. Moreover, the Security and Civil Protection sector will receive a 15% boost.
The Finance Councillor, Epifanio Díaz Hernández (PSOE), emphasised that the budget upholds a strategy of financially sustainable investments, which includes the expansion of the children’s school, upgrades to the Cultural Centre and the Music School, among other projects.
When formulating the budget, the City Council chose not to establish a fixed allocation for investments, as these funds are derived from treasury surplus. For the 2024 budget, for instance, 12 million euros were allocated.
Podemos proposed four amendments, which were officially turned down, although the governing team pledged to implement them. These proposals include the adaptation of restrooms for individuals with reduced mobility, the creation of a cultural heritage inventory, and conducting studies on light pollution, which will fall under the scope of future projects, according to the ruling team.
