SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife is set to demolish a dilapidated structure located near Pico del Inglés, within the Anaga Rural Park, and will proceed with the regeneration of the land to ensure its integration into the landscape, as revealed this Wednesday by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, and the third vice president, José Carlos Acha, during a press conference discussing government council agreements.

“This initiative holds a significant landscape aspect and a commitment to preserving our natural spaces, alongside ensuring the safety of the public. The building has been in a state of neglect for several years, following the closure of a bar-snack bar situated at the entrance of the viewpoint. It is positioned on the left side of the footpath leading from the car park to the viewpoint,” stated the president.

In addition, coinciding with Education Week, the government council has approved the 2025-2028 strategic plan for the Cabildo Educa training programme, which is celebrating its tenth edition this year. This plan includes new measures aimed at constructing a high-quality educational offer on the island, adopting a pedagogical approach that incorporates new technologies, and ensuring that this information is effectively communicated to the community.

Notably, the plan includes the consolidation of a catalogue featuring 250 training projects, which highlights an increase in Canarian content, additional classrooms in Navega en positivo for the Primary cycle, and a greater emphasis on sexual education and harassment prevention, along with enhanced scientific and mathematical content to support girls’ vocational aspirations, as specified by the island president.

Regarding Historical Heritage, the government council has approved the revitalisation of the agreement forged between the island corporation and the Santa Cruz City Council for the restoration of the historic Capital Market located in Plaza de la Madera, designated as BIC. This signifies that rehabilitation efforts on this historic building, which dates back to 1847 and was designed by architect Manuel de Oraá, will proceed.

OPEN COMMERCIAL AREAS

The third vice president, José Carlos Acha, announced the approval of the regulatory criteria for the selection of Actions within Open Commercial Zones 2025, as outlined in the Island Master Plan for Open Commercial Zones of Tenerife.

These regulatory criteria are designed to establish a protocol for selecting actions to be implemented in spaces that, after identification, analysis, and delineation, have been classified as Open Commercial Zones. Specifically, two main focuses emerge: the crafting of Open Commercial Zone Master Plans (PDZ) and the development of parking projects within ZCA.

In the realm of tourism, approval has been granted for the framework cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands and the island councils, aimed at aligning the tourist infrastructure projects executed across the islands with the Canary Islands Tourism Infrastructure Strategy for Islanders.

Among the primary goals are the enhancement of accessibility, digitalisation, and sustainability of tourism infrastructure, as well as establishing Tenerife as a diverse and experiential destination, thereby adapting projects in accordance with energy and environmental transition priorities.

In sports, the company Arasti Barca Canarias, SL has been awarded the contract for organising the 2024-2025 Master Games for approximately 136,000 euros. The purpose of this initiative is to advocate for sports as a means of promoting health, social cohesion, and economic growth.
