SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is seeking a 30-year prison sentence for the individual who fatally stabbed his ex-partner and injured his son in January 2023, close to their family residence in the Armeñime area of Adeje.

According to the indictment cited by Europa Press, the man, who hails from North Africa, had cohabited with the victim for a decade and fathered two children with her, who also lived with other offspring from the woman’s previous relationship. Notably, there were restraining and non-communication orders in place against him concerning the victim, who also originates from the Maghreb, as well as the minors.

The relationship concluded at the victim’s discretion, as noted by the Prosecutor’s Office, which stresses that during their romance, she suffered humiliation, abuse, and contempt inflicted by the accused, leading to his prior conviction for assault and violations of restraining orders.

Nevertheless, despite the ending of the relationship and the enforcement of the restraining orders, he returned to reside in the family home, exploiting the situation to maintain “extreme control” over the victim, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Consequently, familiar with her work hours, he waited for her outside the residence as she returned from her shift at a hotel and assaulted her with an 18-centimetre knife multiple times while she called for assistance.

One of their sons, having heard his mother’s cries, rushed to her aid and attempted to seize the knife from the assailant, resulting in an injury to his hand, at which point the man stabbed his ex-partner one final time.

At that moment, the other minor son of the victim, who was in the home with his two younger siblings, ran to help, while a bystander, alerted by the frantic pleas for help, managed to restrain and disarm the accused until police and medical personnel arrived. Unfortunately, they could not save the victim, who was found lying on the ground with serious wounds and a significant pool of blood, as stated by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office considers these events to constitute alleged crimes of murder and injury, additionally requesting that the perpetrator be subjected to supervised release for a decade, the revocation of parental rights, and a 35-year ban from approaching or communicating with the minors, with an additional ten years for the injured child.

Furthermore, it demands a compensation payment of 200,000 euros for the minors for moral damages, along with an extra 20,000 euros for the minor who was attacked.

The trial, which will be conducted by a jury, is set to commence next Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Provincial Court.
