SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 18 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The vice president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Lope Afonso, along with the councillor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, joined the mayor of Arico, Olivia Delgado, this Monday for the signing event to validate the re-assessment to commence the construction of the Abbots social and health centre.
The project, awarded to VVO Construcciones y Proyectos SA, has a budget of 4.2 million euros supported by the Cabildo of Tenerife and is scheduled to be completed in 18 months.
Lope Afonso and Águeda Fumero emphasised that “this structure will result in the introduction of 76 new residential places for the elderly in the southern area.”
On this matter, the vice president remarked that this represents a “new advancement” towards fulfilling the “pledge” to enhance social and health care facilities on the island of Tenerife, in response to community needs, and he highlighted “the role of local councils, particularly that of Arico, as it is only through collaborative efforts that this objective can be achieved”.
The Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, echoed these sentiments, also noting that “these developments represent an expansion of the day centre currently in operation, which provides 15 day care places.” She added that “the opening of this new centre aligns with one of the aims of Islénior, the first Island Plan for Comprehensive Care for the Elderly, particularly in relation to its focus on specialised care for older individuals.”
Fumero highlighted the necessity “to collaborate closely with local councils to attain the goal of increasingly specialised social care, through a transformation in social management that enables, via networking, the delivery of improved services to citizens”.
For the mayor of Arico, Olivia Delgado, “today marks a significant milestone for the municipality and the region, as we will have access to such an essential resource that offers a service of great importance.”
