Endesa Inspects Over 300 Power Boxes in Santa Cruz de Tenerife Following Dog Tragedy

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Nov. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

E-distribución, the subsidiary of Endesa, has initiated a campaign to inspect all electrical manholes within the San Vicente Ferrer vicinity following the tragic death of a dog, allegedly due to electrocution.

Technicians from Endesa have discovered several instances of electric installations where wires appeared damaged as a result of direct interactions with rodents, though this situation has not presented any danger to pedestrians because the wiring was safeguarded by the infrastructure cover.

In this regard, the company emphasises in a statement that only personnel affiliated with the electrical company are permitted to open and manipulate electrical manholes.

Currently, the company has already examined over 300 manholes in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the involved operators will persist with this task in the following days, aiming to inspect a total of 500 underground electrical installations.

Where any degradation of the wiring cover due to rodent activity is detected, intervention is undertaken with insulating materials, and several manholes have also been addressed to reinforce the sealing of the access points.

The decision to deploy this dedicated group of operators followed the incident last Tuesday, when a dog perished after stepping on one of the manhole covers along San Vicente Ferrer Street—a situation that technicians have termed “unusual.”

In this context, the company states that it is continuing its investigation into the matter to determine whether a fault existed, and if so, what may have led to it.

In the forthcoming weeks, Endesa will compile all collected data and be able to provide the technical report regarding this unfortunate incident to the relevant authorities.

The company aims to reassure the public, affirming that the inspection of the manholes in the area where the incident occurred has been conducted as a precautionary measure and that technicians have confirmed they are secure structures for pedestrians.

Indeed, manholes are the most ubiquitous electrical feature in urban areas.

Endesa has reached out to the owner of the deceased pet, expressing gratitude for their respectful engagement during the conversation, extending condolences, and offering assistance as needed following their loss.

Representatives from E-distribución have maintained communication with the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council throughout this process.
