A number of municipalities in Tenerife have expressed solidarity by observing three days of mourning as declared by the Government for those who lost their lives in the severe and unfortunate flooding caused by a DANA on the Peninsula. Meanwhile, ongoing efforts are being made for rescue and locating missing individuals, alongside the identification of deceased persons.

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, has initiated the request for the cancellation of all municipal activities in recognition of the official mourning declared in Spain for the victims of the torrential downpours that have wreaked havoc across various communities on the Peninsula.

Consequently, Santa Cruz has cancelled all festivities organised by the City Council from this Thursday until next Saturday, including events pertaining to Halloween coordinated by the Development Society and local districts. This cancellation encompasses parades, concerts and other similar activities.

In addition, special arrangements that had been planned in light of these celebrations are also suspended, unless municipal services in charge determine it necessary to continue them for public welfare reasons.

La Laguna will also forgo events

The La Laguna City Council has likewise resolved to cancel all festive, social, and cultural events scheduled within the municipality until the coming Sunday.

Among the anticipated activities from this Thursday until next Saturday was the Skull Island Tenerife Zombie Walk, which was set to take place this Thursday, October 31, through the main avenues of the city. Therefore, the previous entertainment arranged in the Plaza del Adelantado featuring makeup, food trucks, and music, along with the subsequent awards for best costumes, will also be on hold.

Furthermore, the theatrical performance ‘Finados. A tale of traditional Canarian witchcraft’ that was to showcase the traditional observance of the Night of the Dead in the Canary Islands on Saturday, November 2, has also been cancelled.
