SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21 Oct (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation have initiated the registration period for submissions for their eighth edition, with the awards ceremony scheduled for May of the coming year on the island of Tenerife. Established in 2018, these awards aim to celebrate talent within the Ibero-American animation sector, as well as to foster professional networks on both sides of the Atlantic, contributing to the development of an Ibero-American animation market.
The entries will be judged in seven primary categories: Feature Film, Series, Short Film, School Short Film, Commissioned Work, Video Game Animation and Music Video. The finalists in the main categories will also be evaluated in three technical categories: Visual Development, Animation Design and Sound Design and Original Music.
The call for entries is aimed at productions with a predominant contribution from one of the 23 Ibero-American nations released between 1 June 2023 and 31 December 2024. All submissions must be registered via the Festhome platform before 17 December at 11:59 p.m. (Spain time). The participation criteria can be found at this link. A selection committee will choose six nominees from each category, which will be announced in February next year. Following this, an international jury will determine three finalists per category, who will ultimately compete for the awards at the ceremony planned for May on the island of Tenerife. Details regarding the date and location of the Awards will be revealed soon.
In the previous edition of the Quirino, ‘Robot Dreams’ by Pablo Berger was awarded Best Film, the second season of the musical series ‘Jasmine & Jambo’ by Silvia Cortés secured Best Series, while the Brazilian film ‘Lulina ea Lua’ by Marcus Vinicius Vasconcelos and Alois Di Leo received the title of Best Short Film. Awards in other categories were presented to productions from Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Portugal.
Alongside celebrating the finest works of Ibero-American animation, the Quirino will once again feature the Co-production and Business Forum, which in its last edition welcomed the participation of 200 professionals from 25 countries, who conducted over 1,400 business meetings.
