SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The emergency and lifeguard services on beaches have assisted this weekend about ten people on the coasts of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, who found themselves in trouble at sea or suffered accidents because they were very close to areas with strong waves, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2.
In Tenerife, the helicopters of the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the Government of the Canary Islands intervened on Saturday in two rescues in the same place, the coast of Playa de Rojas, in the municipality of El Sauzal.
In the first incident, a swimmer was in trouble because he could not return to shore, when 1-1-2 Canarias received the alert and activated the rescue device. The swimmer was hoisted onto the GES aircraft and taken to the ground so that he could be evaluated by medical resources, along with another person who had managed to get out on his own.
In the second case, several people near a viewpoint in this area were swept away by a crash of the sea, one of them clinging to the rocks and the other swam towards the open sea, separating themselves from the breakers, where they waited to be rescued by the helicopter that He moved her to land. Both suffered multiple bruises and erosions and were taken by ambulance to the Canary Islands University Hospital.
Furthermore, on Sunday afternoon, on Bobo beach, in Adeje, a man was treated by lifeguards with symptoms of drowning, after being located on the rocks. After performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, he was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
In Gran Canaria, two people have also been assisted with symptoms of drowning. On Saturday, beach lifeguard services rescued a man at the old Agaete pier and, on Sunday, Red Cross teams performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers on another swimmer who was pulled from the sea on Las Canteras beach. Both were transferred in ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) to the Gran Canaria University Hospital Dr. Negrín, where they were admitted in serious condition.
Likewise, in Gran Canaria, some surfers helped another swimmer in trouble on Puertillo beach, in Arucas, who did not suffer any major injuries.
Finally, in Lanzarote, on Las Conchas Beach, in the municipality of Teguise, the SUC assisted and transferred to a health center a woman who managed to get out of the water after finding herself in trouble about 50 meters from the shore.
The Government of the Canary Islands declared last Friday the pre-alert situation for coastal phenomena on the islands, in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA), a situation that is expected to remain until tomorrow, Monday.
The poor state of the sea has mainly affected the northern and western coasts of El Hierro, La Palma and Lanzarote; to the north coast of La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria; and to the west coast of Fuerteventura.
In this sense, the Government of the Canary Islands insists on the need for the population to always take extreme precautions in these cases and follow self-protection advice at all times to avoid risks.
