The Home Office, through the National Police, is conducting an active inquiry to determine the reasons behind the arrival of Asian migrants to the shores of the Canary Islands via the ‘Atlantic route’, sources from the Government Delegation inform Europa Press.
On the same Tuesday, a canoe reached the island of El Hierro carrying 76 individuals, of whom 65 allege to be Pakistanis, as reported by Salvamento Marítimo, which assisted in the rescue operations.
Additionally, towards the end of August, another cayuco arrived at the island with nearly fifty Pakistanis and several Syrians on board—an unusual event in the islands, considering that this type of migrant is typically associated with the Mediterranean or the ‘Balkan Route’.
“The reality is that this is not a common occurrence; we spend limited time with them during the assistance provided at the dock. We understand that they departed from the West African coast, and once they arrive at the centres and a few days have passed, we will be able to ascertain the conditions of their journey,” emphasize the services operating in the port.
