SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, is ranked number 50 in the Newsweek World’s Best Hospital 2023 in Spain.
This medium has qualified, for the last five years, more than 2,300 health centers in 28 countries around the world. The hospital complex ranks as the best public center in the Canary Islands, with a score of 70.52.
The Hospital de La Candelaria offers specialized health care to the population of the metropolitan area and south of the island of Tenerife, and is a reference for the islands of El Hierro and La Gomera throughout the hospital complex and its dependent centers, such as the Ofra Hospital, the Rumeu Specialized Care Center (CAE), the South Hospital and the different mental health units.
The Hospital is a reference center for liver transplantation, not only regionally, but also nationally. It also has services whose work has been recognized by the medical community, such as Palliative Care, Cardiology, Pneumology or Pediatrics.
In 2022, the Hospital performed 19,036 surgeries, 15,303 of which were scheduled. Likewise, 177,185 emergencies were attended throughout the 12 months and 650,840 consultations, between first and successive.
The hospital complex has also developed different lines of action in search of excellence in care and attention to patients, which has allowed it to achieve, among other recognitions, the award for the humanization of the breastfeeding process, the accreditation in electrophysiology by the Spanish Society of Cardiology or recognition in the management of Covid-19 data during the pandemic at the II Ibero-American Virtual Conference on Covid-19 and Public Health.
Newsweek uses a specific methodology to rate the centers, which is based on four points: the recommendations of professionals in the sector, through an international online survey of more than 80,000 health professionals from around the world; the experience of the patients and users served by the center, with surveys to measure their satisfaction; hospital quality indicators, with aspects such as the quality of treatment and hygiene measures; and the new incorporation of PROMs measures, through an online survey on the implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals.
