SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 30 Aug (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Council of Tenerife has, via its department of Social Action, Inclusion, Volunteering and Citizen Participation, augmented a funding line by €100,000 to enhance citizen involvement within the island’s municipalities, resulting in a total allocation of €300,000 for this year.

The regulations for these grants were published last Thursday and will remain open until 11 September as part of the Island Strategy for Citizen Participation. These aims are to safeguard the right of the public to engage in the governance and decision-making processes regarding public matters, as well as to bolster the competency of local councils.

Councillor Águeda Fumero states in a release that €200,000 will be allocated among all municipalities that have applied and meet the stipulated criteria, while €50,000 will be distributed to those achieving the defined participation aims, and an additional €50,000 will be available for municipalities working collaboratively on various projects.

Fumero emphasises that this has been a key request from all town councils on the island, urging the promotion of these Citizen Participation initiatives and making funds accessible, in line with the objectives set out in the Citizen Participation Strategy advocated by the Cabildo de Tenerife.

He further states that the goal is “to enhance citizen participation at the island level, ensuring that individuals contribute to public affairs, take part in the promotion of democratic values, streamline and modernise public administration, innovate governance, all in an effort to foster a more deliberative democracy that is closer to citizens.”

The application process can be found at the following link: https://sede.tenerife.es/es/tramites-y-servicios/item/11467-…

The Department of Social Action, Inclusion, Volunteering and Citizen Participation has invited municipal officials and technical staff responsible for Citizen Participation to a face-to-face assembly of the Island Network of Local Entities for Citizen Participation in Tenerife on Thursday, 5 September, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Teide Room, situated in the headquarters of the ONCE Foundation.
