The Municipal Housing and Services Company (Muvisa) in La Laguna has released a new announcement aimed at individuals and organisations who possess vacant and completed buildings, encouraging them to submit their offers for the purchase tender by the entity for allocation to affordable rentals.
The La Laguna City Council stated on Wednesday that Muvisa will invest 4 million euros this year in these purchases, as part of an initiative to further enhance the local property supply, which currently includes 70 residences, where beneficiaries are required to pay a maximum of 30% of their family unit’s income.
“The Housing and Social Welfare departments, alongside Muvisa and the Urban Planning Department, have united efforts to tackle the housing crisis in La Laguna,” remarked the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez (PSOE), who noted, “We recognise the challenges facing us and acknowledge that this is a reality that transcends our geographical constraints, in terms of responsibilities as well, but action cannot be postponed any longer.”
In addition to this strategic initiative, “which is already in progress since these actions involve extensive procedures, we are committing considerable resources to enhance the livability of existing urban developments. Next month, we shall unveil a comprehensive study on housing in La Laguna, commissioned from the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna, which will serve as a foundation for making further decisions in this domain,” stated the mayor.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Muvisa, Ignacio Viciana, mentioned that they have identified “a concerning issue of vacant properties, which we will gain further insight into from the FGULL report,” in addition to the limited availability of housing on the market. Viciana highlighted that “it is estimated that 1 in 5 individuals earn the Interprofessional Minimum Wage.”
