The social dining room The lagoon turns three years old this month, a period in which it has served an annual average of between 90 and 100 people who are homeless, who live in substandard housing or who require this support due to their socioeconomic situation. The Social Welfare Area of the City Council allocates 100,000 euros per year to finance a resource that is open 365 days a year and that attends daily to between 30 and 40 users, people residing in the municipality and who also have a comprehensive plan of accompaniment, so that they not only have their basic needs covered, but also that they can develop a social and labor integration itinerary that has meant that approximately 45% of the dining room users have overcome their situation and regained their autonomy.
This facility opened its doors in August 2019 at the headquarters of the Regional Assembly of the Red Cross, through an agreement between the Area and the entity, to guarantee attention to users after the closure of the two dining rooms then existing in the municipality. , which were managed by third sector entities. And it did so with a new model, in which users are previously received by a social worker from the organization, who knows their needs and, in addition, proposes support measures or referrals to other social resources.
