SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13th August (EUROPA PRESS) –
Mums and Real Madrid manager Carlos Ancelotti have been selected as the ideal leaders by young Canarians, according to the 18th Adecco survey ‘What do you want to be when you grow up’, which discloses that Canarian girls aspire to become doctors or veterinarians, while boys dream of becoming footballers or doctors.
The research specifies that Canarian girls wish to have their own mothers or the singer Aitana as their superiors, with a friend (11.6%), a teacher (9.3%), or the footballer Alexia Putellas (7%) also featured. On the other hand, boys prefer Carlo Ancelotti and subsequently being under the guidance of Pedri (16.1%), their boss being the singer Quevedo (12.9%), the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (6.5%), or Elon Musk (3.2%).
The survey also outlines the career preferences of girls and boys in the Canary Islands, as highlighted by Adecco, who mention that “they still aspire to pursue the same professions as the youths surveyed 18 years ago, back in 2004.”
In this context, both females and males desire professions related to animals (22.5% of females and 44.4% of males). Beyond animal-related professions, 24.3% of Canarian children would opt for a career associated with sports. Following those linked to the health sector (21.6%), women favour professions tied to animals (16.2%) and music, chosen by 13.5%.
GIRLS AIM TO BE DOCTORS AND BOYS ASPIRE TO BE FOOTBALLERS
Regarding the top ten professions, 20.5% of Canarian girls select the doctor profession as their primary choice. Subsequently, girls express their desire to become veterinarians, as stated by 13.6% of those surveyed. Occupying third place is the teaching profession (11.4%), a role that led last year’s rankings. The top positions are comprised of professions like dancer and singer (frequent choices among girls).
In contrast, boys aspire to become footballers, as marked by 19.1%, followed by the doctor profession at 14.9%, and journalism (12.8%). On the other hand, in fourth place in this edition, is the pilot profession, garnering 10.6% of male preferences (an occupation absent from last year’s top 10). Furthermore, plummeting down several places in the ranking, this year it emerges as a police career, with 8.5% of young Canarians aspiring to pursue it.
When asked about the prospect of working with robots in the future, 64.3% of boys and 59.4% of girls express interest in doing so, with 11.5% declaring the Gaza conflict as the “most significant” news in recent months, followed by the Ukrainian war (9.8%) and the concert by singer Taylor Swift held in Spain (8.2%).
48% PLANS TO ESTABLISH THEIR OWN ENTERPRISE
Regarding the potential of launching a business in the future, 48.3% consider the option of founding their own venture. Boys favour opening a sports store (30.8%), then a law firm (19.2%), and listing on the global stock exchanges (15.4%).
Young girls, on the other hand, would first establish a veterinary clinic, as indicated by 21.9% of them. Subsequently, they perceive business prospects in a dance academy (15.6%), a venture related to swimming (12.5%), and a psychology clinic (9.4%).
