The Loli Pérez group won the first prize for best costume at the Santa Cruz Carnival Choreographic Festival held last day 5 at the Fairgrounds. After having triumphed in this edition, as they did in 2019 -first prize- and 2020 -second prize-, the group consolidates its trajectory in said festival and Loli Pérez, director and choreographer of the güimarero group founded in 1998, spoke with DIARY OF NOTICES about his fantasy and the present and future of these groups in the Chicharrero Carnival.
Thus, Loli Pérez conveyed the pride and happiness of all the members “to be able to have these awards in our curriculum”. “We lived that day with the emotion of being able to get back on the Carnival stage and of being able to live it without any restrictions, happy to feel all those emotions again,” she recalled.
The fantasy that the group wore was called Not all heroes wear capes, some wear wings and wear stripes, by Ana Ramos and characterization by Mariló Martín. A design that, “since August, when our first meeting was, began to take shape, and to see how we could represent the story we wanted to tell, has gone through an elaboration process, since the materials that have been used are mainly sublimated velvet, which requires a digital elaboration process, just like the makeup, which had to make the girls look like real bees and recreate the queen bee”, explained Loli Pérez.
“With our story we wanted to represent the importance of the bee, but, above all, of our black Canary bee, which was almost on the verge of extinction,” he continued. Since the bee is extremely important for the earth and for life. With her we wanted to send the message that after what we have experienced, we have the opportunity to restart and correct mistakes and to care for and value even the small details of life.
“We are quarry”
Regarding the participation of the choreographic groups in the Chicharrero Carnival, Loli Pérez stressed that “we contribute a lot and you just have to see the number of groups that exist and how numerous some of them are. We are a quarry and we are another way of showing the Carnival”, and pointed out that, “although it is true that in recent years, after the award for presentation has been given, they have given us more importance, I think there is still a long way to go. walk and things to improve”. In this sense, she added that “the possibility should be raised that an award is also given to the interpretation and thus give it much more value.”
Finally, Loli Pérez wanted to “thank the group for the effort they have made all this time, their families for their patience, my team that voluntarily helps me behind the scenes, the makeup team and the design team for their great work. And of course my family.”
