SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 5th August (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, and the mayor of Vilaflor, Agustina Beltrán, have signed an agreement today, Monday. The island council will contribute 1.6 million Euros for the construction of a new drinking water tank called ‘El Salguero II’.
The construction of the El Salguero II drinking water reservoir is part of Program 2.4.2 of the MEDI-FDCAN Program and will provide water to the 2,000 residents of the southern municipality.
Rosa Dávila highlighted that the construction of this tank has been a long-standing request from the Vilaflor Town Council and the residents of Chasna. She described the agreement as “great news for everyone” considering the current water scarcity and the declared water emergency to improve hydraulic infrastructures and ensure water supply to the population and agriculture.
Agustina Beltrán mentioned that the municipality currently has only one inadequate tank and the new one, equipped with filters and two tanks, will be a significant improvement ensuring a reliable water supply. Beltrán expressed gratitude towards the Council for their support as the municipality relies on external funding for major investments.
Minister for the Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, stated that such infrastructure projects are essential to enhance water supply to the population. The new tank will guarantee sufficient drinking water for the residents, unlike the current outdated facilities that pose maintenance challenges.
The Tenerife Island Council will provide 1,672,658.10 Euros in two annual instalments for the construction of the ‘El Salguero II’ reservoir. The Vilaflor Town Council will oversee the construction, which is scheduled to be completed within twelve months. Upon completion, the Town Council will be responsible for the management and maintenance of the reservoir.
