SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The sixteenth edition of the La Laguna-San Benito Abad Tapas Route, which took place from 1st to 31st July, concluded with the sale of nearly 160,000 tapas. At a fixed price of 4 Euros each, this generated an estimated turnover of 640,000 Euros in the city’s restaurant sector.
The Councillor for Tourism and Commerce of the La Laguna City Council, Estefanía Díaz, emphasised that this event is “an excellent platform to showcase the rich diversity, creativity, and quality of our gastronomic offerings. It is a culinary experience that defines us as a destination,” she added.
The councillor also expressed gratitude to the businesses that participated in the window display competition, which took place in July as part of the San Benito Abad festivities, for their efforts in promoting shopping and consumption.
Abbas Moujir, President of FAUCA, stated that the Tapas Route “plays a vital role in promoting and providing visibility to the local gastronomic sector. It is a model to follow that showcases the success and benefits of collaboration between the public and private sectors.”
According to Iván Pérez, President of La Laguna Zona Comercial, “the dedication of the participating establishments and the warm welcome of the citizens reinforce the fundamental nature of the route, making it a distinctive experience for all those on the island during this period.”
In this edition, the popular jury, who participated in the initiative through the APP of the La Laguna Zona Comercial Business Association (LLZC), awarded the Gold Cap to the Lagula restaurant. The Silver Cap and Bronze Cap were given to Gulagú and the Maquila Restaurant.
A total of 7,111 people, compared to 4,083 in the previous edition, cast their votes via the APP among the 35 establishments participating in this event organised by La Laguna Zona Comercial, with the support of FAUCA, and sponsored by the La Laguna City Council through its Department of Commerce.
SAN BENITO SHOWCASE COMPETITION
In parallel to the Tapas Route and in order to involve the retail sector in the city’s socio-cultural agenda, a window display competition was also held in July on the occasion of the San Benito Abad festivities. Nine establishments from the Open Commercial Zone participated in this competition.
This summer, by popular vote, the award was given to Calzados Víctor Núñez. This establishment secured the top spot “for creating an original, vibrant, and historically-rich window display, combining unique antique elements with accessories from traditional clothing available for purchase in the establishment, such as hats and shoes,” explained Iván Pérez, who thanked local businesses for their efforts in filling their windows with colour and tradition during the festival celebrations.
