SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24th June (EUROPA PRESS) –
From Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th June, the forty-third Health Economics Conference with the theme ‘Public policies for health: perspectives from economics and health’ will take place at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism of the University of La Laguna. The event is expected to gather over 300 attendees.
Health economics plays a vital role in achieving the goals of effectively allocating available resources and ensuring fair access for citizens to healthcare services.
During this conference, economists, managers, healthcare professionals, and other experts will convene to explore various aspects of this field. It is instrumental in enhancing the overall population’s health and achieving a more equitable distribution of health benefits across different social groups. Health economics is also essential for disease prevention, promoting healthy lifestyles, and implementing public initiatives to address social exclusion and unemployment.
Professor Ignacio Abásolo, the head of the local organizing committee, emphasises that health actions, particularly collaboration strategies between healthcare professionals at different levels of care (and with those from social services), as well as improvements in organizational structure, governance, and information management in the healthcare sector, are integral to public health policies. These aspects are crucial for optimising public resource utilisation.
The conference will commence on Wednesday 26th with the opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m., expected to be graced by the university rector, Francisco García; the Health Minister of the Canary Islands Government, Esther Monzón; and the Health Economics Association president, Cristina Herrero. They will discuss topics such as health expenditure, public finances, and the significance of their assessment.
Following this, parallel presentation sessions will cover a wide range of topics including health determinants, environmental factors affecting health, dependency, healthcare services, innovation, artificial intelligence and healthcare management, quantitative methods, and economic evaluations, among others.
