The airports in Canary Islands recorded a total of 3,934,369 passengers in May, an increase of 8.6% compared to the same month in 2023, as per AENA data.
Out of the total number of passengers recorded last month, 3,918,675 were from commercial flights, with 1,823,931 flying domestically, an increase of 9.9% from May last year, and 2,094,744 flying internationally, a rise of 8%.
Furthermore, there were 36,808 aircraft movements, an 8.9% increase from May 2023, and 2,737 tonnes of cargo transported, up by 12.1%.
By airports, Gran Canaria saw the highest number of passengers with 1,094,567, marking a 9.6% increase from the same month the previous year.
Following closely is the Tenerife South airport, with 976,706 passengers, reflecting a 12.4% growth compared to May 2023; César Manrique–Lanzarote, with 663,867 (+2.9%); Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 574,798 (+10.6%);
Fuerteventura, with 471,459 (+4.6%); La Palma, with 117,514 (+9.7%); El Hierro, with 25,418 (+5.1%) and La Gomera, with 10,040 (+7.4%).
So far this year, Canary Islands airports have catered to 21,795,270 travellers, a 9.9% surge compared to the same period last year.
Out of these 21,635,981 commercial passengers, 8,315,913 travelled on domestic flights, an 8.8% increase, while 13,320,068 flew on international routes, up by 11.3% from the corresponding period in 2023.
