Yesterday, the Arona City Council revealed a majestic five-meter tall sculpture of the iconic movie monster, King Kong. Positioned at the entrance of the cultural center, this installation marks the commencement of a week-long series of film-related activities organized by the council. Visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the history of one of the world’s most beloved characters through original posters, high-definition replicas, and representative figures spanning six of King Kong’s evolutionary designs.
This statue, standing at 5 meters tall, is a reimagination based on the design commissioned by Peter Jackson for his 2005 film, King Kong. Crafted by the esteemed Rolenart company, the sculpture made its debut at the last edition of the Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival on Skull Island.
The exhibition in Arona will also include screenings of four films, showcasing the character development of King Kong over the years in chronological order. Visitors will witness the cinematic evolution and technological advancements applied to this industry through one of the most iconic protagonists in film history.
Today’s screening will feature the 1933 classic, King Kong, a highly regarded masterpiece. Tomorrow, the audience will enjoy King Kong vs. Godzilla from 1962. On Thursday, the 1976 version of King Kong will be showcased, followed by the 2005 film of the same title on Friday.
Each film will have a single screening during the exhibition, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Chasna Room of the cultural center, with free entry until full capacity is reached.
