La Guancha maintains restrictions on tap water consumption only for children under eight years of age

The town council of La Guancha, following the regulations of the General Directorate of Public Health and after the latest analysis of public water supply, continues to restrict its consumption only to the local population under 8 years old. In this way, the rest of the population is free to drink or prepare food with the public water.

The mayor of La Guancha, Antonio Hernández, announced through Radio La Guancha that “since May 13, we are treating 100% of the water that enters our tanks again. We have managed to recover optimal levels in about two weeks. Since then, and after just over 15 days, several water samples in the municipal tanks have been analyzed, and we have received the health inspection report that allows us to relax the restrictions on water consumption and maintain the limitation only for minors under 8 years old, in compliance with current regulations. We hope that by next week we can confirm that the fluoride level is at 1.5 or below and can end the restrictions for the entire population.”

The municipality of La Guancha imposed restrictions on the consumption of public water last April, becoming the first on the island to do so following the declaration of a water emergency by the Tenerife Island Council.

In this case, the reason was not only the drought but mainly the breakdowns in the municipal supply network that drastically reduced the level of the tanks.
