The NGO Together we are more, which helps more than 2,200 families from Tenerife who are at risk of social exclusion, has contacted DIARIO DE AVISOS, to make an appeal to find a new location in the south of the island.
In the beginning, the organization kept all the belongings and all the food that they delivered to needy families, in a place located in the south, specifically, in Las Chafiras. However, according to the director of Juntos Somos Más, Nuri Díaz, the owner of the premises told this newspaper that he was ending the rental contract, since he was going to use it to start a business. At this point they started looking for a new place to store everything they had and a little over a month ago they found a space, also in the south of the island, to which they moved, but not for long. This place did not meet the requirements they needed and finally they ended up being thrown out.
“We found a new location, for 250 euros a month, but it was poorly communicated. I was in an area where the bus didn’t even arrive. In addition, there was a house on top of the premises and from the beginning they told us that they did not want people to be there. Our hands were tied, but it was the only thing we found, so as not to stay in the street ”.
At this time, Juntos Somos Más does not have a place to store all the food and belongings, which are many, which are distributed every week to needy families. They have the merchandise distributed in the house of two people. For these spaces, the director of the NGO, Nuri, pays 150 and 100 euros respectively, although she tells us that she is making a “great effort” and that what she could pay for a new rental would be 200 euros.
It is a problem, says Nuri, that prevents them “from reaching people who are starving and who are having a really bad time.” And it is that with the distributed material, they cannot work well.
He assures that these vulnerable families “do not have money to eat and, much less, to move.” And that they, as NGO, cannot work without a place in conditions in which to organize the material and the food to go out every day to distribute.
We remember that Nuri, this 43-year-old güimarera, dedicated to helping everyone who needs it, contributes a large part of her salary to pay for the gasoline of the volunteers who visit Tenerife every day to reach those who need it most.
These are helps that these people at risk of exclusion receive every 25 days. Elderly population, families with dependent children, dependent people and people with health problems. Hence the need to find another place that is well located, that adapts to the needs of the NGO and of the people who travel to collect “a bag of food”. It is the only thing that Nuri asks for, “a little help to find a place in which to continue helping the people who need it most, which unfortunately there are many”.
