The XXXI Pilgrimage in Honour of San Isidro Labrador in El Pico, Tejina, marked the opening of the pilgrimage calendar in La Laguna municipality for this year. It was a not-to-be-missed event that took place in the afternoon, drawing a large crowd of pilgrims eager to join the celebration. The weather was delightful, adding to the joy of the festivities, which featured folk music, traditional dances, succulent roast meat, excellent wine, and wholesome kneaded gofio. Families and friends gathered around elaborately decorated carts, pulled by the devoted pilgrims.
According to municipal records, a total of 41 cars were registered to participate in the Tejinera pilgrimage, alongside approximately 22 groups and parties including Guantejina, Chisaje, Rodríguez de Milan, Atalaya, Isogue, San Borondón, and Itamar. The celebrations in honour of San Isidro Labrador of El Pico commenced on the 2nd of the month and will carry on until the 18th, offering a variety of activities such as the upcoming Carter’s Day celebration.
Today, the pilgrimage calendar continues with the Pilgrimage in Honour of San Matías at 12:00 p.m. in the Taco neighbourhood, where the streets will resonate with traditional songs and the distinctive sound of carts. Various groups taking part in the pilgrimage include Aguariguay, Princesa Iraya, Tacoremi, and Parranderos y Punto. Following the pilgrimage, the San Matías Festival Commission will treat participants to paella and entertainment.
