Belgian Escaped Criminal Apprehended for Drug Smuggling in Southern Tenerife, Operating a Venture

A 28-year-old Belgian fugitive was detained in Arona, situated in the southern region of Tenerife, under a European Arrest Warrant for drug trafficking offences issued by his home country’s judicial authorities.

The apprehension took place after law enforcement agents in Tenerife, responsible for tracking down international runaway convicts, received intelligence from the General Police Directorate’s international police cooperation agencies, suggesting the presence of this Belgian escapee in the island’s southern vicinity, according to a statement from The National Police.

Acting upon this information, the police, following extensive investigations, managed to pinpoint the individual in Arona municipality, where he was attempting to blend in by operating a business in the tourism hub of Playa de las Américas.

A discreet operation was carried out for his arrest, ensuring a safe apprehension, with the man intercepted in Playa de las Américas and subsequently escorted to the police stations.

The fugitive has been remanded to the central investigative courts, following his physical presentation at the Arona guard investigative court.
