The Tenerife Cabildo has been honoured by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Demarcation of the College of Civil Engineers of Roads, Canals and Ports with the prestigious ‘Agustín de Betancourt’ award for the construction of the Masca pier.
The project drafting commenced in 2018, followed by the tendering and approval of the construction. An investment of around 1.6 million Euros was allocated to the project, which was executed by the firm Satocan and completed in early 2023.
Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo, expressed gratitude for the ‘Agustín de Betancourt’ award bestowed by the College of Civil Engineers, acknowledging the recognition of the engineering techniques employed in the project, its functionality and quality, the challenges during execution, the integration of the infrastructure in the surrounding environment, and the contribution of the project towards enhancing societal well-being.
The Masca pier consists of a dock constructed from 46 concrete blocks, along with a promenade and a boarding area that can also serve as a heliport. This new construction replaced the old pier in the region, ensuring improved safety for the residents and visitors.
For the past decade, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Demarcation of the College of Civil Engineers has been organising the ‘Agustín de Betancourt’ Awards, open to all Civil Engineers, institutions, and community groups interested in submitting proposals.
The judging panel comprises experts and representatives from the Demarcation and the Governing Board. These members will evaluate and select the proposals that best align with the requirements set forth in the competition guidelines.
