Playa San Juan, located in the southern municipality of Guía de Isora, now boasts a brand new promenade by the sea. The Tenerife Island Council and the local government of Guía de Isora inaugurated a new seaside promenade on Monday, representing a significant improvement in one of the main bathing areas of this town. The renovation, costing two million Euros, focused on the stretch of Emigrant Avenue between Isla de El Hierro Street and Venezuela Avenue, prioritizing public use to make it more pedestrian-friendly. This involved widening sidewalks and adding tree-lined areas to provide shade for the population.
Rosa Dávila, the President of the Tenerife Island Council, which provided 80% of the budget, attended the inauguration. “It is a reality that reconnects us with the sea with a very spacious area,” she said about a project that began at the end of 2021. During her visit to Guía de Isora, the president also mentioned other projects that “must be completed during this term.” She referenced the Senior Citizens Center, “which we are boosting for the local residents,” the Alcalá Passage, and the ring road.
Lope Afonso, Vice President of the island’s Corporation, was also present in Guía de Isora. He emphasized that the coastal promenade renovation is a project to “improve accessibility on the coast of Playa San Juan, something crucial for Guía de Isora and for the island of Tenerife.” “The intervention aimed to balance the interests of residents with the tourist and commercial interests in the area. This allows us to enjoy a privileged landscape like the one we have here, widening sidewalks, facilitating pedestrian traffic, creating shaded areas, and renewing urban furniture.”
The Mayor, Ana Dorta, stated that the intervention in Playa San Juan “was much needed and responds to the plans we have for renovating tourist spaces, which had been requested by the business sector and commercial fabric for residents and visitors.”
