The City Council of La Laguna, under the Department of Works and Infrastructure, is aiming to enhance the accessibility conditions and quality of the pavements across more than fifty streets located in various parts of the municipality. This project, with a budget of 3,140,493 Euros, has gone through a public bidding process.
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez explained that the planned works have been divided into three separate lots, categorised by zones, each with an estimated completion period of around three months. He elaborated that the areas to be improved include San Miguel de Chimisay, La Cuesta, Taco, Los Majuelos, Las Mantecas, San Jerónimo, and San Luis Gonzaga.
Additionally, Works and Infrastructure Councillor, Ángel Chinea, stated that the necessary signage work will commence in the middle of next week, followed by groundwork. Residents will be informed in advance of any potential traffic disruptions in the area.
Chinea outlined the various planned works, which involve tasks such as replacing tiles, curbs, and the asphalt layer of the streets, constructing new pedestrian crossings suitable for individuals with limited mobility, upgrading sidewalks, renewing waste bins, installing bio-healthy furniture, updating signage, changing bars and scuppers, raising and reinforcing manhole covers, and applying a new tread layer.
The first lot concerns the regions of San Miguel de Chimisay, San Jerónimo, and San Luis Gonzaga, encompassing 23 streets and three squares in the vicinity. The second lot focuses on La Cuesta, Taco, and Las Mantecas, affecting 23 streets, three squares, and other public spaces. The third and final lot pertains to the core of Los Majuelos, covering seven streets and four squares.
Chinea emphasised that the primary goal of these enhancements is to improve internal communication within the municipality by enhancing accessibility, ensuring road and pedestrian safety on the streets. The broader objectives include promoting social and commercial coherence, as well as improving bio-healthy infrastructures to enhance the quality of life and encourage physical activity.
