The inhabitants of Anaga Rural Park are on the verge of a breakthrough in addressing their long-standing mobility demands. The Cabildo of Tenerife, along with the municipal councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna, have called for a meeting on April 2 with the residents.

The purpose of this meeting is to address the challenges posed by the influx of visitors to the rural park, which hinders access to the hamlets and creates difficulties for residents due to overcrowded public transportation primarily occupied by tourists. The meeting, likely to be held in Cruz del Carmen, will be chaired by Eulalia García, the Minister of Mobility for the island.

Strategic Plan

The socialist faction within the Cabildo of Tenerife will table a motion during the plenary session to push for immediate actions to enhance mobility in the area. This initiative aligns with a similar proposal put forth by the PSOE in the recent session of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, receiving unanimous approval.

The socialists highlight that the rural park “serves as a key recreational hub in the metropolitan area of Tenerife and has emerged as a major tourist magnet, creating challenges in managing the delicate, natural setting. Preserving and safeguarding this environment while supporting its local population, culture, and enhancing living conditions are paramount.”

The proposed enhancements take into consideration the measures outlined in the II Action Plan for the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve 2022-2026, collaboratively drafted by the Canary Islands Government, the Cabildo of Tenerife, and the municipal councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, and Tegueste.

The PSOE is set to urge the Cabildo to swiftly introduce an on-demand public transportation service catering to Anaga residents and recommend augmenting the frequency and operating hours of interurban bus lines 076 and 077 operated by Titsa with larger-capacity vehicles to meet the growing demand.

Additionally, there will be a proposal to extend the route of line 077 to include Taganana and Almaciga, and a call to the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna to enhance the frequency and scheduling of urban bus lines 945, 946, 947, and 273, 274, 275, respectively.
