The town of Candelaria in the Canary Islands will come alive this Friday as it commemorates the Solemnity of Our Lady of Candelaria with various events underscoring the longstanding traditions and devotion of the Canarian people to the Patroness of the Canary Islands.
The day will commence with the Eucharistic celebration at 08:00 and 10:00. There will be a procession from City Hall to the Basilica, featuring the civic procession and the transfer of the town’s banner at 11:30 am. The Candelas Music Band and representatives of the local police forces of Santa Cruz and Candelaria will take part.
The Solemn Eucharist, presided over by Monsignor Bernardo Alvarez, bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, and sung by the Orfeón La Paz de La Laguna, will take place at 12:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Mírame Televisión.
Following this, the procession of the Virgin of Candelaria around the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, accompanied by a shower of confetti, will continue the day’s events.
The day will proceed with the presentation of drumbeats and tribute to the Virgin by the Tafuriaste Cultural Association at 4:45 p.m., followed by the Holy Rosary at 5:15 p.m. Finally, at 6:00 p.m., a special Eucharist will be held with the presentation of young boys and girls to La Morenita.
