An application will allow the 21,000 students of the University of La Laguna (ULL) have the possibility of sharing a vehicle. They will all be included, divided into several clusters (groups) to form the main bulk of the educational community, but above all it is aimed at those in the Metropolitan area where 70% of the students come fromeither. In the future it will be extended to both teachers and Administration and Services Personnel (PAS). It is one of the main conclusions of the third meeting on mobility on the Island in which civil society endorsed the measures taken in the first six months of the new mandate of the insular government of CC and PP to alleviate the recurring queues on the roads, especially on the North (TF-5) and South (TF-1) highways. He Tenerife Council received unanimous support from economic and social agents. From the first academic institution to companies or the hospitality industry and from the rest of the administrations to other groups. The president of the corporation, Rosa Davila, highlighted the involvement of all sectors and entities, whose work “is essential to reaching a solution.” In this regard, he assessed the current study as “advanced and necessary” to undertake the execution of nine works in different strategic links.
The Noble Hall hosted the meeting in which different groups participated and which was directed by President Dávila. The Vice-Minister of Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary IslandsFrancisco Gonzalezas well as councilors from the different municipalities of the Island or environmental groups such as ATAN.
Rosa Dávila thanked all those involved for the work carried out in a short time “of which Results are already being seen because everyone has gotten involved to contribute their grain of sand. and they are facilitating agents of the solution. This is the case, as mentioned, of the University of La Laguna, Ashotel and the representatives of companies and entities that, Dávila highlighted, “have described the measures carried out as brave and strategic, but that must be addressed together to find a solution.” solution that is durable over time.
The president announced that the next mobility meeting will be held in four months and took stock of “the evolution” of the agreements and policies in this area to date, such as those established together with Ashotel in its promotion of collective transport. In the case of the hotel association, unifying schedules to mobilize 2,000 workers in the sector of ten hotels in Costa Adeje.
Results are already being seen in mobility because all sectors have been involved in working
Dávila praised the presence of the Infrastructure Department of the Government of Canary Islandsa collaboration that stood out for the need to determine priority actions as well as those that can be done with minimal impact.
Nine links. In relation to upcoming actions, the president referred to nine links that, after agreeing on the competition with the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo will address with a budget of 30 million euros. These immediate intervention points are found throughout Tenerifein the Metropolitan Area, the North, the South and the Baja Island.
Mobility Plan. Dávila appreciated that the Island’s Sustainable Mobility Plan, currently in the public information phase and presented at the meeting last September of this “great monitoring commission” as defined by the president, “has been flattered by the representatives and authorities for its exhaustive level of diagnosis. Dávila highlighted in this sense “the brilliance” in the technical execution of the document.
Study of the ULL. The director of the CajaCanarias-ULL Mobility Chair at the University of La Laguna, Rosa Marina González, announced that they already know the data “on the movement of students” to know “those that coincide in origin and destination and group them into clusters ( groups) of potential users to share the car. She added that an app is being designed to put them in touch and also manage parking spaces. The teacher specified that, according to the data in that report, 70% of the students come from the Metropolitan Area “and we want those students to share a car.” In the future, the groups will involve the entire university community, including professors (PDI) and Administration and Services Staff (PAS).
North Trades. Ivan Rodriguez de Azero, representative of the Alisios Norte business group, said: “We are very happy for these meetings so that we can all get on the mobility bandwagon in Tenerife and congratulate the initiatives of the Cabildo to try to solve the problems of the Island.” He believes that “progress is being made and there are short-term strategic measures that are helping, such as the test that was carried out in Guamasa – closing access to the TF-5 from adjacent roads – but also those that involve the ULL, the hospitals in the North and South or in Ashotel. He also pointed out that “infrastructures are needed such as the development of the third lane from Guamasa to Los Rodeos Airport” but, above all, “agreements to unblock those that are paralyzed.”
Guamasa-Los Rodeos. Francisco González highlighted the complicity in these meetings. He pointed out that since Rosa Dávila’s government took office “we have been working hand in hand with him to define those priorities that are strategic for the Island immediately and also those in the medium and long term.” Regarding specific projects, he indicated that “one that previous governments gave up on has been put on the table, such as the third lane on the Guamasa-Los Rodeos section” at its new entrance to the Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna airport. Now, he added, “it is understood as a priority, it needs the appropriate administrative steps, but progress is being made.” Another fundamental aspect is “solving the problems that exist on the links in various areas of the Island.” He stated that “the Cabildo of Tenerife has diagnosed problems with the links and will work to address them so that the institution can execute projects with the authorizations of the Government of the Canary Islands,” he stated. Likewise, he insisted that “nothing is going to stop” because, according to what he said, there are projects that are already underway and others that need administrative steps to direct them.
Positive, but… Rosa Dávila assured that the tests carried out at the end of last October on the Guamasa links with the Northern Highway gave positive results and announced that these conclusions from the studies will be presented in the coming weeks, with the help of the La Laguna City Council and the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT). Despite this, she acknowledged that it will involve “alternative” actions to make it something comfortable and accepted by the neighbors.
