Adeje will be the first municipality in the Southern region to build energy-sustainable social housing. All this after the autonomous Government has published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the agreement for the transfer of two plots in the center of Armeñime.
The 45 homes will be granted on a rental basis, as contemplated in the agreement between the city council and the Canary Islands Housing Institute (Icavi), which was approved in August of this year by the municipal plenary session with the aim of facilitating access to housing for neighbors and workers, a right that has become an obstacle course in a region where rents have skyrocketed, forcing many of them to seek refuge in vans and caravans or shacks, in the worst cases.
The planned houses will be protected and publicly promoted, and their implementation will be the responsibility of Icavi. This organization has the objective of including the plots in the Aid Program for the construction of housing for social rent in energy efficient buildings, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Under the agreement, the Canary Housing Institute accepts the transfer of the plots provided by the Adeje City Council. These areas will be used exclusively for the construction of protected social housing, and the Institute undertakes to carry out all the actions required to achieve this purpose. The execution of the objectives set out in the concession of the plots must be completed in five years, ensuring the intended use during the subsequent three decades.
The Assistance Program for the construction of housing for social rent in energy efficient buildings was promoted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda with Next Generation funds from the European Union. Its objective is to enable 20,000 homes under a social rental regime.
The budget that was planned to be transferred to the autonomous communities was 1,000 million euros. Of this figure, 918 homes would be in the Canary Islands, with a transfer of funds of 45.9 million euros, according to public data from the Ministry.
The maximum subsidy to be received by the promoters of these energy-sustainable social housing is 700 euros per square meter, with a maximum of 50,000 euros per house.
