The Great Santa Claus Parade returned yesterday to the main streets of the historic center of La Laguna, with a new route that recalled the tradition that existed more than six decades ago in the city and that still remains in the memory of the older generations of the municipality. .
The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, recalled that the origins of this parade have to do with the solidarity collection of toys that took place in the city, promoted especially by the Orfeón La Paz, and that concluded with the mythical figure of Santa Claus of the araucaria from La Concepción, which has also been rescued this year after half a century of absence.
A parade that has generated great expectation, bringing together some 7,000 people on the main roads of the town to enjoy the parade, especially the little ones in the house, and which took place without notable incidents, according to sources from the Local Police and the director of the Security plan.
The procession included characters from the world of animation, as well as emblematic characters of these Christmas dates, magical fairies and reindeer, both on foot and in different vehicles and electric tricycles, and included distribution of candy and musical and dance groups, such as the fanfare of Los Silos, everyone accompanying Santa Claus. And in which, of course, the most mischievous of the Christmas characters, the Grinch, was also present.
The parade started from Consistorio Street and went along La Carrera Street (Obispo Rey Redondo) to La Concepción Plaza, turning onto El Tizón Street, going down Herradores and turning at the height of Heraclio Sánchez along Viana Street, returning to Plaza del Adelantado along La Carrera Street, where it ended.
