Sustainability and digitalization are the challenges that Tourism of Spain has set for itself. Tenerife. The entity brought together the sector at its traditional Christmas cocktail party, which took place at the Museum of Nature and Archeology (MUNA), located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It was a meeting in which the tourism company explained the challenges it faces for 2024 and the coming years, “always on the basis of close public-private collaboration and the transversality of tourism on the Islandboth between the different areas of the Council as with the rest of the public administrations».
More than 250 associates to the entity dependent on the Cabildo, including accommodation establishments, nature activity companies, audiovisual production companies, event organization companies…, attended the event. The president of the Cabildo attended, Rosa Davila; the vice president and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso, and the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, highlighted the pride in “destiny, for being a world power in a strategic sector for the future and sustainable, of which Canary Islands and Tenerife have historically had a strategic vision. Rosa Dávila highlighted “the extraordinary level of connectivity of the destination, the quality of the accommodation plant or the qualification of the restaurant sector”, while recalling “the shared challenge that we build every day, with and from Turismo de Tenerife, because there is a lot that the Island has to offer, leisure, tourism and experiences for those who want to get to know the Island and its people.
For his part, the vice president and advisor of Tourism, Lope Afonsopointed out, for his part, that 2023 closes “being a good tourist year, but not without forgetting that there have also been difficulties, with the international situation, inflation or the fire in Tenerife.”
Lope Afonso thanked the sector for its “tenacity and solidarity in difficult times for the Island,” and referred to the “stimulating challenges that can help us consolidate the Island at the top of the tourism market.” And she added: “We have to continue advancing in achieving a more sustainable destination, hand in hand with digitalization and the proper management of our resources, and that the destination is also economically sustainable.”
The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife explained, in more detail, the main tourism challenges for 2024 and the following years. Melwani emphasized Tenerife Tourism’s commitment to working together with the sector.
