SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 13. (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Wednesday, the Plenary Session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands elected the until now general director of Foreign Relations of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Méndez, as general administrator of Radiotelevisión Canaria (RTVC) by 36 votes in favor of the groups that support the Government — CC, PP, ASG and AHI– and the abstention of Vox, NC-BC and PSOE.
The candidate proposed by the Executive already obtained the endorsement of suitability from the members of the RTVC Control Commission last Monday, also with the abstention of the opposition groups.
In her speech during the Commission, María Méndez, technician of the autonomous community, said that she does not come to “do politics” or to “make decisions” about the organization of public media, but to “manage” and ensure that workers can develop their functions in search of “excellence”.
Méndez, the first woman to hold the position and who replaces Francisco Moreno at the head of the entity, is an economist with an extensive career as a public sector manager, an expert in European affairs, tourism, internationalization and marketing and advertising.
She has assumed responsibilities in the senior management of public companies and as a management technician, among others, head of monitoring of Next Generation projects of the Ministry of Finance and European Affairs.
Between 2010 and 2020 she was managing director of Promotur Turismo de Canarias and during that stage she developed proven relational capacity with the multinational advertising industry.
