The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be the scene next Wednesday, December 20, at 10:30 a.m., of the VI Edition of the Christmas Concert for Schoolchildren with which the Tenerife Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJT) – Miguel Jaubert will invite close of 4,500 students from 40 educational centers on the Island to welcome Christmas.
The presentation ceremony of the school concert took place this Tuesday in the Junta del Puerto building and was attended by the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez; the president of ACADIM, Javier Lozano; the Councilor for Education and Youth of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Rosario González; the territorial director of Education, Adrián Delgado and, on behalf of the DISA Foundation, Sara Mateos, director of the entity.
The show, which will be held at the Los Llanos Dock in the Chicharrera capital, on the stage already set up for the popular Christmas Concert, has become a classic on the agenda of cultural events on the Island thanks to ACADIM, Canarian Association for the Diffusion of Music (ACADIM), which manages to bring together thousands of schoolchildren to enjoy together not only music, but art in its most varied disciplines.
Under the title “The musical lamp, coming to fruition”, the OFJT-Miguel Jaubert, directed by maestro José Antonio Cubas, will offer a concert that will bring together the world of traditional tales from the Middle East, with the character of Aladdin as the protagonist , along with a walk through Canarian traditions, using art, symphonic music, theater, dance and song as a bridge of understanding between cultures and as a metaphor for hope.
For Pedro Suárez “this concert transmits the principles of culture and effort in the youngest people. This is a success story that we want to extrapolate to the rest of the year so that, together with the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife and the City Council of Santa Cruz, our infrastructure is made available to citizens and thus they have cultural spaces. and leisure closer to the sea.”
For his part, Javier Lozano has highlighted “the importance of both public and private entities joining forces and creating synergies of collaboration to place culture at the epicenter of Canarian society, making it available to new generations.”
More than 100 performers will give life to this show, all of them minors, teenagers and young musicians, singers, actors and actresses, who will be under the theatrical direction of María Díaz Montelongo, as well as dancers from the Tenerife International Dance Center, conducted by Héctor Navarro, who once again collaborates with the OFJT-Miguel Jaubert.
They will perform a very varied repertoire, ranging from different songs from the popular Aladin (Alan Menken and Tim Rice with arrangements by John Glenesk Mortimer); works of great classics such as Carmen (Bizet); The Nutcracker (Tchaikovsky) or the Radetzky March (J. Strauss); some Christmas classics like Rudolph (J. Marks, T. Guerrero/arr: Fedor Vrtacn); Santa Tell Me (Ariana Grande/arr: José A. Cubas D); All I Want for Christmas is you (Mariah Carey/arr: José Cubas) or traditional Canarian songs such as One on the same sea (Benito Cabrera/arr: P Hoppe) or Canary Islands (arr.: José M. Tarridas/arr: Peter Hope).
The director of the DISA Foundation, Sara Mateos, has stated that “this show is a powerful educational tool since it is the children themselves who make music for their peers.” Statements with which Rosario González agreed, who assured that “it involves educational learning that allows young people to know the importance of the port and the city.”
For his part, Adrián Delgado was grateful to be able to collaborate this year with the concert since “it is a unique event where education and culture come together.”
Concert broadcast by RTVC
The show, like every year, will be recorded by Radio Televisión Canaria and later broadcast as a New Year’s or Three Wise Men’s concert, depending on programming needs, for the audience of the entire Archipelago.
The initiative is promoted by the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, organized by the Canarian Association for the Diffusion of Music (ACADIM), with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Culture, Museums and Sports area of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Education Area of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the DISA Foundation.
