The vending operator Delikia has already found the best sandwich in the world, within the framework of the third edition of a contest that aims to identify the tastiest sandwich prepared by hospitality students from all over Spain.
Chicken ham, semi-cured cheese, smoked paprika and a pinch of solidarity are the main ingredients of the recipe that has won the 6,000 euros of the first prize of the “The best sandwich in the world” contest.
His actor Gadim Gueye from IES San Marcos de Tenerife, received the maximum score in the framework of a final held this Thursday afternoon in Madrid, and attended by more than one hundred and twenty people.
Francisco López, winner of the previous edition, was present at this final gala as a member of a jury led by chef Pepe Rodríguezwhich chose as second and third prize the proposals of Ariel Munguía from Le Cordon Bleu in Madrid and Joel Badal from CETT in Barcelona, awarded with 2,000 and 1,000 euros respectively.
Noa Yeste’s proposal emerged as the favorite option of the audience who were able to taste the sandwiches of the eight finalists and vote in situ for the one they liked the most.
Eight finalists among more than 80 candidates
Eight students from hospitality schools in Madrid, Zaragoza, Murcia, Barcelona and the Islands Canary Islands were those selected, among the more than 80 applications receivedto compete in the final test held last night at the Kitchen Club facilities in Madrid.
With a timed schedule, students They had to make their sandwiches and give them to taste to a jury chaired by Pepe Rodríguez, chef of the El Bohío restaurant, and made up of Marcos Gonzalezbarista at Delikia, Eva Lago, head of Production at Delikia, Francisco López, winner of the second edition of the contest, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, owner and editor of the gastronomy blog “Las Manos en la Mesa” and Yasser Ríos, professor at Basque Culinary Center for final year students in the Vanguard specialty.
To choose the three winners, the jury especially valued the flavor, quality and originality of the sandwichas well as the presentation and defense carried out by its authors.
The three best sandwiches in the world are not only because of their flavor and originality, but also because 10% of the proceeds obtained through its sale, starting next January in the more than 12,000 vending machines that Delikia has spread throughout the national territory, will go to the NGO “Tierra de Hombres Foundation” which aims to promote the development of children. In the last edition, around 15,000 euros were raised, which went entirely to this entity.
