To do this, the City Council will have a team of Public Services inspectors and the help of Local Police agents who will monitor the points where the most practices of this type occur, with the aim of applying the new Waste Management ordinance and Cleaning of Public Spaces, which contemplates penalties from 2,000 euros and up to 100,000, depending on the type of waste left.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, indicated that “the cleanliness and care of the city is an issue that worries the City Council, which works every day to keep the streets of each and every one of the districts in the best conditions. , and for that we need citizen collaboration, because it is the only way for Santa Cruz to be clean.”
The Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, pointed out that “not only is the garbage being left outside the containers, but the waste is not being separated, which is why neighbors who do not comply with the law must be punished.” normative”.
Likewise, the first deputy mayor added that, “we will work in a coordinated manner, and monitoring will be done in the places where we have detected these uncivil practices.” “The City Council of Santa Cruz – continues the municipal councilor – invests 13 million euros a year in the cleaning service to allow some to act in this uncivil way.”
These practices, classified as serious infractions in the municipal ordinance on Waste Management and Cleaning of Public Spaces, go against articles 10, 11, 25 and 27, non-compliance with which contemplates economic sanctions of 2,000 euros or more, which could rise up to 100,000 euros if it involves hazardous waste or contaminated soils.
The City Council has detected a list of 17 points where these practices occur most frequently. For example, in the Salud-La Salle district, Juan Ramón Jiménez street, Miguel Hernández street, La Ermita road, Granadilla street (in front of the Neighborhood Association), and Plácido Sansón street stand out.
