The Ministry of Health reported this Monday at the Government Council on the report on the pharmaceutical expenditure of the Canarian Health Service corresponding to September 2023, a monthly period in which 4,673,442 prescriptions were issued, with an average expenditure of 11.59 euros, which placed the pharmaceutical bill at 54,173,267.15 euros, which includes spending on diet therapy products.
By Health Areas, Gran Canaria issued 2,048,254 prescriptions in September and Tenerife, 1,973,180. They are followed by Lanzarote, with 241,945 recipes; La Palma, with 184,405; Fuerteventura, with 158,693; La Gomera, with 44,766; and El Hierro, with 22,199 prescriptions issued.
Regarding the average expense per prescription, the highest was recorded in the Health Area of La Gomera, with 12.81 euros, and the lowest in Fuerteventura, with 11 euros, although the greatest percentage decrease, of 1.64 %, was registered on the latter island, going from 11.19 to 11 euros in the reference period (September 2022-September 2023).
To the pharmaceutical expenditure of the SCS for the month of September, 649,896.36 euros are added resulting from the application of Decree Law 1/2020 on urgent measures that regulates aid for the acquisition of medicines financed by the National Health System (SNS). to people who have the status of Social Security pensioners and their beneficiaries, whose annual income is less than 18,000 euros, so the total amount of expenditure on medicines amounted to 54,823,163.51 euros.
