SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The acting Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Héctor Gómez, offered this Friday to the Canary Islands Government an “honest and sincere” dialogue to manage the rise in irregular immigrants arriving to the islands and care for unaccompanied minors.
In an interview given to ‘Televisión Canaria’ and collected by Europa Press, he said that public policies must be “coordinated” and “the impact” of the migration phenomenon must be “minimized”, and in that sense, he believes that we must also go “hand in hand.” ” with the EU.
He has said that migration is a “global phenomenon” that occurs in many parts of the planet and for the EU it must be an “absolute priority”, knowing that “it is not easy” to reach an agreement between the 27 member states but valuing the same time the principle of agreement on the new asylum and migration pact.
Gómez has attributed the “massive departure” of African people from Morocco, Mauritania or Senegal to the “political instability” suffered in West Africa and in that context, he has highlighted the “indisputable commitment” of the Executive to confront this phenomenon, with meetings of several ministers with representatives of the Canarian Government.
At the same time, it has shown its desire to work “at source” to help the development of the emitting countries and has demanded a “greater intervention” from the EU.
