Agents of the maritime service of the Civil Guard rescued this Monday a man and a woman who had gone sailing with a canoe and it capsized, after which both were left adrift near the fishing dock of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
La Benemérita explains that the strong wind and waves prevented the couple from getting back into the canoe, which they could not hold on to, so it ended up escaping. They could only hold on to an oar to stay afloat, sources from the armed institute detailed this Tuesday.
The maritime service agents began the search after receiving the alert from a private individual, who had seen the canoe adrift, and found its occupants, whom they rescued unharmed but in “a strong state of nervousness and physical exhaustion” due to the time they remained floating in the water.
