Hundreds of people attended one more year the religious event in the heritage heart of the municipality, dotted with gastronomy and crafts from the islands, thanks to the parallel development of the thirty-eighth Tacoronte Crafts Fair, made up of more than fifty professionals arriving from different points of the Archipelago.

During midday, the banner was transferred from the Town Hall to the interior of the temple, by the councilor Yaiza Díaz and representatives of the Tenerife Fire Department and Brifor, as a gesture of gratitude for the effort made during the past forest fire that devastated Tenerife and in which Tacoronte was one of the most affected towns.

The delegation had a wide representation of local, island and regional authorities, among whom were the mayor, Sandra Izquierdo; the first and second deputy mayor of the municipality, Noemí García and José Caro respectively; the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila; the first vice president of the insular Institution, Lope Afonso; the senator for Tenerife, José Antonio Valbuena; and the regional deputies, Nira Fierro, Jennifer Curbelo and Marta Gómez. Mayors from other municipalities also attended, as was the case of Juan Ramón Martín (Arafo); the mayor of Candelaria, María Concepción Brito; and the top leaders of Güímar and El Sauzal, Gustavo Pérez and Mariano Pérez respectively.

The rector of the Sanctuary of Christ, Elisuán Delgado, along with several ecclesiastical officials, was in charge of officiating the holy mass, sung by the Choir of the Santa Cecilia Musical Group. At the end, Sandra Izquierdo handed the baton of command to Christ, as a gesture of respect and deep gratitude, just before her departure to the Plaza del Cristo.

Throughout the processional route, the venerated image had the support and affection of hundreds of people coming from different parts of Tenerife, and with the added musical company of the Güímar Municipal Band and the El Gran Poder de Dios Cornet and Drum Band. from Puerto de la Cruz.

The Department of Festivals successfully developed, in parallel to the religious programming and throughout the day, the 38th Crafts Fair of the Festival of the Holy Christ of Sorrows, thanks to the participation of fifty artisans.

The event took place near the Town Hall, with a wide exhibition of gastronomic products and handmade products, such as jewelry, textiles, footwear, toys and decorative objects, among others.

In addition, the artisan exhibition featured live performances by the Tagorosteros and Viñatigos Centenarios groups.

La Octava yesterday put the finishing touch to the traditional Fiestas del Cristo in Tacoronte, although there is still one week left to enjoy different cultural, religious and sporting events scheduled this year.
