The discussion and division over the southern train prevailed in the Cabildo de Tenerife. Quite the contrary that in Gran Canaria where there was unanimity to support the same motion. Presented in both cases by Ciudadanos, the exact name was “Railway Indicative Strategy”.
«In Gran Canaria the same initiative was presented today (yesterday) and all the groups supported it unanimously, but here it has not happened and it is a shame». The phrase is from the proponent, Enrique Arriaga. The directors Manuel Fernández (PP) and Félix Fariña (CC) expressed themselves in the same sense. Both were very belligerent against the lack of unity
The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, also spoke yesterday about guided transport. Questioned about whether he supports the train in the south of Tenerife, he has assured that his opinion is included in the so-called Pact of the Flowers signed by PSOE, NC, Sí Podemos and ASG at the beginning of the current legislature. There, “guided transport is supported,” explains Ángel Víctor Torres.
However, he has recognized that in some projects “there are urgencies and European funds” to manage, while others “require more time”, have “explicit support” or have “more controversy”, but they are initiatives “of environmental sustainability” “if there are funds and they are feasible”. Torres has assured that he has “no concern” about a possible breach of the pact in the Cabildo de Tenerife by the southern train in the face of the threat of Sí Podemos Canarias.
Torres has commented that the president of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, in this legislature “works with a majority and reaches out to everyone”. He is convinced that he will continue to do “magnificently well” and in case of differences between the partners “they will always have to be discussed internally.”
