Arona removes kiosks selling illegal excursions from public roads

The Arona City Council has proceeded to withdraw several kiosks from companies dedicated “to the sale and illegal promotion of excursions” in the coast of Los Cristianos. The measure was applied “for the occupation of public roads without any type of permit,” according to what the municipal government said yesterday in an official statement.

The mayoress of Arona, Fátima Lemes, recalled that the City Council is the administration “guarantor of compliance with the laws and defender of those who comply with them”. She also stressed that the intervention “is an express requirement of businessmen and merchants who see how this illegal activity has been proliferating every day, without measures having been taken so far.”

Fátima Lemes defended the municipal action and argued that “all the steps established by law have been followed.” She stressed that, “with the knowledge” of the Provincial Coastal Service, “various kiosks have been withdrawn.” The Aronera councilor stressed that it is about «A necessary action, because totally unfair competition is being made to legal companies that comply with their obligations and that are being greatly harmed.

There will be more interventions

The mayoress of Arona made it clear that the local government will be forceful: “We are going to continue acting against the illegalities that currently exist in our municipality, always within the framework of the law,” added the councilor.

The Councilor for Security, Alexis Gómez, explained that “these actions comply with current legislation. We have followed the legal steps for the preparation of minutes, notifications and resolutions. The mayor maintained that “actions like today’s (for yesterday) are the fruit of the work of various municipal areas. We must thank them for their dedication, as well as the Arona Local Police and the National Police Force, for the zeal they have shown in complying with the law”, he concluded.
