The acting Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, described this Thursday as “humiliating and shameful” the treatment given by the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, to the players of the national team, emphasizing that which is very different from what he has with the players on the men’s team.
After being asked about the controversy at a press conference held in Tenerife, where the minister was visiting the areas affected by the fire, she said that the Government is “cautious and respectful” of the process because “it does not directly depend” on its competitions, it is at the expense of the Federation and the Higher Sports Council, but he has insisted that Rubiales’ attitude has an “enormously suspicious and humiliating” tone.
Ribera sees “obvious” that Rubiales’ behavior is “clearly inappropriate” and has wondered if the president “considers that he is in a position to continue exercising his responsibility with dignity” as a result of “what he has done” and the images that they are getting to know each other “We have all seen it, it is not something discussed by anyone,” he added.
A government “as soon as possible”
Regarding the investiture of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the minister has shown this Thursday her respect for the decision of King Felipe VI, but has regretted that there is no government “as soon as possible”.
He has admitted that he would like to “clear up the unknown” and that there would be an investiture session “soon” to form an Executive but he understands that it is necessary to be “respectful” with events, in such a way that his Government continues to function “working normally ” and within the legal limits that go through guaranteeing public services and the “normal operation” of the institutions.
Visit to the Observatory that escaped from the fire
The third vice president visited the facilities of the Meteorology Observatory in Izaña this Thursday, which escaped the flames of the forest fire in Tenerife despite the fact that it has affected more than 2,000 hectares in the Teide National Park.
Ribera also took the opportunity to recognize the 30-year career of the outgoing director, Emilio Cuevas, in addition to learning about the projects and services he provides from the observatory of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
As of next Monday the 28th, the next director, Carlos Torres, who currently manages the acting directorate, will join.
