SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mariano Zapata, met this Thursday with the Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, and has asked her to speed up and call “as soon as possible” the renovation and upgrade of power plants.
“In the Canary Islands we suffered an energy emergency that we have to address, being aware that it is the Ministry who is responsible for the call and the acceptance of the solutions that will be proposed from the Ministry”, said Zapata, who has insisted on working in a ” coordination” between administrations to deal with “obsolete” power plants.
In addition, from the Ministry they have shown the minister the “concern” that exists for the affectation of the natural environment and the biodiversity of the Canary Islands due to the forest fire that has been plaguing Tenerife for nine days.
Thus, Zapata has expressed to him that “it is important to act as much as possible in urgent repair and reforestation measures, as well as to articulate the necessary mechanisms to be able to provide economic resources to the administrations that must carry out the erosion prevention work ground”.
The counselor appreciated that both in this meeting and through a formal letter, the Ministry has shown its willingness to collaborate in the restoration tasks through a possible declaration of a special action area for the execution of hydrological-forestry actions in the most seriously affected areas. .
