The owners of the three local wineries, Zanata, Viñátigo and Borja Pérezthey will be in charge of reading the proclamation of the patron saint festivities of La Guancha in honor of the Virgen de La Esperanzawhich began on the 11th and will continue until next Saturday, the 26th. The appointment will be tomorrow, starting at 8:00 p.m., in the square of the Church of El Dulce Nombre de Jesús.
Carlos Pérez, from Viña Zanata; Juan Jesús Méndez, from Viñátigo, and Borja Pérez, from the winery that bears his nameThey will represent a sector, the wine sector, which has given so much recognition to the town of La Guancha. The protagonists will be accompanied by the mayor, Antonio Hernandez, at the official start of the festivities. Hernández highlights: “This year we wanted to make a special dedication to guancho wine to recognize the work and effort of those who make it possible and because they are, without a doubt, our best ambassadors around the world.”
Carlos Pérez (La Guancha, 1950) was born on the historic street El Sol, where Viña Zanata is still located. The work is now carried out by their children José Carlos, Natalia and Yurena Pérez, the fourth generation dedicated to it. Pérez is a winemaker and viticulture technician. He is an innovative and self-taught person who was one of the pioneers in bottling wine.
Juan Jesús Méndez is a chemist, professor, viticulturist and director of Bodegas Viñátigo. Born and raised in a family of viticulturists, he started from the small family farm, where he took advantage of his scientific knowledge to train himself in the disciplines of viticulture and oenology. Viñátigo settled in the old house of his grandparents, on Calle Los Hornos, to later move to his current location, in the area known as Cape Verde.
Borja Pérez (La Guancha, 1985) was born into a family linked to winemaking since 1927, when his great-grandfather founded the family winery. He was trained as an Agricultural Technical Engineer by the ULL and is the owner of the winery that bears his name.
