The firm Services and Residential Management in the Canary Islands, SL. (Serca Gestión) initiated the administration of the Our Lady of the Conception Nursing Home Hospital in Garachico yesterday after urgently securing their services.
The Minister for Hospitals and Social Networks, Elisabet Hernández, announced that “significant enhancements have been made to the tender documentation to enhance its appeal”, allowing “companies with the necessary resources and capabilities to enhance the conditions, medical services, and healthcare provided to users” to apply.
She mentioned that the new contractor meets the requirements for qualified professionals as outlined in the specifications and current regulations, emphasizing that the municipal council will oversee the provision of physiotherapy and social work services.
The PSOE councillor pointed out that the Nuestra Señora de la Concepción Hospital Residence faces deficiencies due to its characteristics, the number of users it serves, and the type of facilities available.
She highlighted that it is housed in a 17th-century building, with facilities now stretched “due to increased demand, as there are limited resources on the Island to care for our elderly, many of whom are under guardianship. We are in a situation where they require assistance, and we aim to provide it, but our infrastructure and available spaces are limited,” she lamented.
Currently, the Hospital accommodates 78 users, 22 of whom are referred by the Canary Islands Health Service and the remainder by the IASS of the Cabildo de Tenerife. The council believes “there are many users, and while acknowledging the challenge of reducing this number, we have suggested to the Cabildo that at least the level of dependency and service requirements for these users should be eased, to enhance the well-being of all and the staff.”
Furthermore, in discussions involving officials from the Cabildo of Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands (Health and Social Welfare), and the municipal council “to ensure the optimal care of users”, efforts have been made to expedite the construction of the new social health centre, anticipated to be completed by late 2027 or 2028. “We are streamlining the specifications and procedures simultaneously so that once the construction is finished, it can be operational as soon as possible.” Meanwhile, “we will persist in enhancing the services, quality of life, and assistance they deserve,” she emphasised.
