excma. Mrs.:
I have been aware that the Institution that you preside over took the agreement a few months ago to award various honors and medals to a large group of people related to Culture in Canary Islands. Between them, The Gold Medal was awarded to my grandfather, Blas Cabrera Felipe. My thanks go ahead to the corporation that you preside over for the initiative, but allow me to take this opportunity to ask you my public petition in favor of the countrymen of Tenerifewhose Blas Cabrera’s memory has been erased since I think 1941. This August 1 I went to the San Luis cemetery in La Laguna, where the remains of my family have been found for a year thanks to the La Laguna City Council and its mayor D. Luis Yeray, the Mexican Consulate in this city and its consul Maria Angeles Baca and the University of La Laguna and their professor from the Department of Physics Jorge Méndez, to put some flowers on the day of death and remind them that they have returned home, with their loved ones and that We continue working so that your Tenerife countrymen recover the memory that was erased from them for more than 80 years. And I am referring to the S. Fernando – Duggi School in the capital, which received the name of Blas Cabrera in the plenary session of the City Council on May 20, 1931 and which was erased after the civil war. This year in Madrid, several important institutional events have taken place. In the first place, I must mention the change of name of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the CSIC to Blas Cabrera, followed by another act at the Complutense University of Madrid where the posthumous handwritten work of my grandfather that we hope has been delivered to the Faculty of Physics see edited soon. In 2021, an act chaired by the Minister of the Presidency of the Government took place, to redress the university professors and academics who had been demoted and failed during and after the war, among them, Blas Cabrera.
My request, Madam President, if it pleases you, is that exercise your influence with the municipal authority so that the name that the same Institution gave to the College during its creation is returned to it. Some friends of mine and I have started an honorary administrative file, but it has not been successful so far. I think the citizens of Tenerife They deserve to recover their memory and especially the one that was erased due to malice and ignorance.
