SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Since the early hours of this Tuesday, the municipality of Candelaria, in Tenerife, has been celebrating its big day in honor of La Morenita, patron saint of the archipelago, and who has woken up with the traditional sounds of the drums of the Guanchería de Los Realejos, to which The 32nd athletic floral offering to the Virgin will follow, organized by Base-Deportes Salud, with hundreds of athletes arriving from Santa Cruz with bouquets of flowers in their hands for the Virgin of Candelaria.
After these events, at around 11:00 a.m., the civic procession is scheduled to depart from the City Hall to the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, which will be followed by the military parade and the reception of the representative of His Majesty the King of Spain, who this year falls on the figure of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, as reported by the City Council in a press release.
Subsequently, Bishop Bernardo Álvarez will be in charge of presiding over the solemn celebration of the Eucharist, at 12:00, which will be broadcast live on TV Canaria, TVE 2 in the Canary Islands, Cope Canarias and Candelaria Radio. The mass will be sung by the Choir Voices for Hope Villa de Candelaria and the Las Candelas Chamber Orchestra. When you finish, a procession will take place around the square.
The big day of Candelaria will conclude at night with music and traditions in the Offering to the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands, in which the Santísima Trinidad de Igueste Venerated Dance, the Candelaria Guanches Collective and fishermen from the municipality will participate.
The Achamán Group and guest singers such as Marey Martín from Fuerteventura, Verónica María from La Gomera, Carla Vega from Gran Canaria and Elena González from Tenerife will also perform, as well as the dance groups Agrupación Folklórica Universitaria (AFU), Grupo Folklórico Isogue and Parranda El Grandfather.
